Jayne Morgan has 25 plus years as a professional actor, director, casting director and teacher.

Anyone can act. It's all a matter of how much you want to push yourself. How willing you are to step out of your comfort zone. Good acting is a combination of technical skill, empathy and courage. Great acting creates a deliciously raw and spontaneous experience - for the actor and the audience.

THE DUMBEST THING I EVER DID:

I've made every acting mistake out there and I'm still discovering new ones. That's the nature of the business - only a problem if you don't learn from them!

I remember an audition many years ago in New York. I was called in for a Coke commercial, which meant big money to me then. The agent who was going to send me on the audition was on the phone when I walked into his office and I sat politely and waited through a long phone call. The agent kept staring at me, looking perplexed.

When he finally ended the phone call, there was no "hi", no introductions, he just blurted out, "You don't have red hair." At the time, my hair was strawberry blonde and I was taken aback by his blunt assessment. He sat with my resume in his hands, and we stared at each other for a while.

I could tell he was on the fence, trying to make up his mind about me. I made the huge mistake of DOING NOTHING. I didn't argue with him, stalk out in a huff, make a joke, or say "give me 20 minutes and some Clairol and I will." I sat there like a bump on a log. Eventually he returned my resume and I left his office, feeling young and foolish, which I was.

MORAL OF THE STORY.

Be memorable. Make them remember you. Even if you're wrong for the part, there maybe another opportunity down the road. The worst sin an actor can commit is being dull and boring. MAKE SURE YOU MAKE AN IMPRESSION!
